100-Day Art Upskilling Challenge
Days 1 – 10 : Foundations — Lines & Shapes
Theme: “Learning to See Anew”
In these first ten days, we rediscover how to see and feel the world
through simple lines and shapes.
Each session can take about 20–40 minutes, including a few moments
of mindfulness before and after.
Day 1 – Lines of Calm
Take a few slow breaths. Feel your hand resting on the table.
Using a pencil or pen, draw slow, continuous lines across the page —
straight, curved, spiralled.
Observe how each line reflects your breathing and mood.
Reflection: What kind of line feels peaceful to you?
Day 2 – Dancing Lines
Put on gentle music.
Let your hand move freely, following the rhythm.
Try overlapping lines, loops, waves — let the drawing dance.
Reflection: Did your hand move before your thought, or after?
Day 3 – Lines of Emotion
Close your eyes and recall a feeling — joy, sadness, gratitude.
Express it only through line — thin or bold, gentle or strong.
Notice how emotion transforms movement.
Reflection: Which lines express tenderness? Which feel heavy?
Day 4 – Lines in Nature
Observe a leaf, shell, or branch.
Draw its main lines — curves, veins, or edges — slowly and attentively.
Don’t aim for accuracy; aim to feel the life inside the line.
Reflection: How does nature’s rhythm appear in your marks?
Day 5 – Contours of the Everyday
Pick a simple object (cup, shoe, fruit).
Without lifting your pen, trace its outline slowly — a continuous contour
drawing.
Allow imperfections; they make your line alive.
Reflection: What did you discover by not erasing or correcting?
Day 6 – Simple Shapes
Draw circles, squares, and triangles of different sizes.
Arrange them playfully, overlapping or floating.
Use colour to fill them — experiment with warm and cool tones.
Reflection: Which shapes make you feel grounded or free?
Day 7 – Shadows and Light
Place an object near a window. Observe its shadow.
Sketch both object and shadow using pencil shading.
Notice how light defines space.
Reflection: Where is light gentlest in your drawing?
Day 8 – Overlapping Forms
Draw two or three simple shapes (apple, cup, vase).
Let them overlap. Notice how depth appears.
Add soft shading or colour transitions between forms.
Reflection: How does one shape influence another?
Day 9 – Balance in Composition
On a blank page, place shapes and lines until it “feels balanced.”
Trust your eyes — move things around until harmony appears.
Add one accent colour to complete the piece.
Reflection: What does balance mean to you — in art, in life?
Day 10 – Mini Reflection & Sharing
Lay out your 10 drawings. Observe how your lines have evolved.
Notice which pages bring calm, movement, or energy.
Write a few sentences or a short poem about the experience.
If you’re in a group, share one piece and your reflection.
Mantra: “Through lines and shapes, I learn to see and to be.”
Days 11 – 30 : Foundations — Tone, Colour, and Texture
Theme: “Exploring Light, Colour, and Touch”
These twenty days focus on seeing light and shadow, experimenting
with colour, and exploring textures.
Each session: 20–40 minutes. Mindful breathing and reflection
included.
Day 11 – Seeing Light and Dark
Observe a simple object in daylight. Notice where light falls and where
shadow forms.
Sketch the object, shading the dark areas lightly, mid-tones softly, and
highlights left blank.
Reflection: How does shadow give depth to what you see?
Day 12 – Tonal Gradients
Draw a rectangle or circle.
Fill it with a gradient from dark to light using pencil, charcoal, or ink.
Notice how smooth transitions feel different from abrupt changes.
Reflection: Which side feels calm? Which side feels energetic?
Day 13 – Contrast Practice
Place two simple objects side by side. Shade one dark, leave the other
light.
Observe how contrast draws your attention.
Reflection: Where does your eye go first, and why?
Day 14 – Colour Introduction
Select 3–5 colours (watercolour, pencil, or acrylic).
Make a small square of each colour, then mix them in between.
Reflection: Which colours feel warm? Which feel cool?
Day 15 – Colour Gradients
Create a gradient from one colour to another.
Let your hand move slowly, noticing how the tones change.
Reflection: How does blending affect your mood or focus?
Day 16 – Mood with Colour
Choose a feeling (joy, calm, nostalgia).
Paint a simple abstract square or circle expressing this mood with
colour.
Reflection: Which colour speaks your feeling most clearly?
Day 17 – Observing Texture
Take a textured object (leaf, fabric, stone).
Draw it lightly, using lines, dots, or crosshatching to suggest texture.
Reflection: How does texture influence how we experience an object?
Day 18 – Creating Texture
Use brush, sponge, paper, or even fingers to make textures on paper.
Experiment with rough, smooth, soft, or layered marks.
Reflection: Which texture feels playful? Which feels grounding?
Day 19 – Combining Tone and Colour
Draw a simple object. Shade one part, then add gentle colour over it.
Notice how tone and colour interact.
Reflection: How does adding colour change the feel of the object?
Day 20 – Reflective Composition
Make a small composition using simple shapes, tones, and colours
from previous days.
Observe balance and visual flow.
Reflection: Which combination feels harmonious? Why?
Day 21 – Nature Tones
Pick a leaf, flower, or stone.
Observe its subtle tonal variations and colours.
Draw or paint slowly, trying to capture the range of light, dark, and
colour.
Reflection: Which details did you notice only because you slowed
down?
Day 22 – Abstract Shadows
Close your eyes and imagine a soft shadow or light pattern.
Open your eyes and paint or draw abstract shapes representing it.
Reflection: How does light influence your imagination?
Day 23 – Colour Exploration in Nature
Take a small branch, flower, or fruit.
Observe its colours carefully. Try mixing paints to match.
Reflection: How closely can your colours match reality? How close do
they need to be?
Day 24 – Texture in the Everyday
Look at fabrics, walls, or furniture.
Draw textures using lines, dots, and small patterns.
Reflection: Which textures are calming? Which are lively?
Day 25 – Layering Practice
Take a simple shape or object.
Add multiple layers of tone, colour, or texture.
Notice how layers create depth.
Reflection: How does layering influence mood and perception?
Day 26 – Shadow Play
Observe two objects in sunlight. Notice their overlapping shadows.
Draw the shapes of light and shadow without outlines, just tone and
colour.
Reflection: How does shadow shape space and form?
Day 27 – Simple Still Life
Arrange 2–3 objects on a table.
Observe tone, colour, and texture.
Draw or paint what you see, focusing on interaction between objects.
Reflection: What is the relationship between objects and space?
Day 28 – Colour Emotion
Choose a mood you feel today.
Use 2–3 colours to express it on paper.
Let your hand move freely.
Reflection: Which colour expresses your inner state most strongly?
Day 29 – Texture in Motion
Observe leaves in the wind or water moving.
Make quick marks capturing motion and texture.
Reflection: How does movement change your perception of form?
Day 30 – Mini Reflection & Sharing
Lay out your works from Days 11–30.
Observe patterns in tone, colour, and texture.
Write or share your favourite exploration and why.
Celebrate how your perception of light, colour, and texture has
deepened.
