Every painting begins with a simple mark. Every colour changes the next colour. Every pause reveals something new. We do not need to know where the painting will end. We only need to notice what is appearing now. In learning to observe the paper with patience, we may also learn to observe ourselves with the same kindness. In this way, painting becomes less about making a picture and more about paying attention—one line, one colour, one moment at a time.
